The information asked for is not readily available, and some delay and examination of a large number of files would be necessary to supply it. It will doubtless meet the Deputy's requirements if I give him the particulars of the mileages and costs provided for each year by each county council. The tabular statement is too lengthy for an oral reply and will be published in the Official Debates. The statement will also contain information as to the mileages surfaced-dressed in each of the years 1932-33 and 1933-34 in each county borough and urban district. The cost of the work in these areas is not available in the Department. Particulars in relation to county boroughs and urban districts for the year 1934-35 are not yet to hand.
