asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of each of the last five years the total sum expended by (a) the State, and (b) the local authorities on university education, and the number of students registered at each college.

As the Department of Education is not directly responsible for the administration of grants to the universities I can only refer the Deputy to the most recent issues of the Appropriation Accounts and the Local Taxation Returns for information regarding the amount expended by the State and local authorities respectively on university education.

,, 1931/2

,, 1930/1

— £202,793

,, 1929/30

— £207,323.
