Vol. 56 No. 16

Unemployment Assistance (Amendment) Bill, 1935—First Stage.

I move:

That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled An Act to amend and extend the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933.

Is this the £300,000 cuts Bill?

The Deputy had better wait and see.

The Minister is not in a position to say yet?

The effect of this Bill certainly will not be to reduce unemployment assistance by £300,000.

Will it prevent the reduction by £300,000?

When will the Bill be circulated?

Probably Monday next. The Second Stage will be taken on Wednesday, but if it has not been circulated by Monday, it will not be taken.

Is it a simple or complicated Bill?

Very simple.

Cuts are always simple.

It is simple enough for the Deputy to understand.

Leave granted.
Second Stage ordered for Wednesday, June 5th.
