Vol. 57 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grant to Representatives of Drowned Brandon Fishermen.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether any grant was given by the Department for the purchase of a boat for the representatives of the three young Brandon fishermen who were drowned off Brandon last year; and, if so, if he will state—(a) what was the amount advanced by the Department for the purchase of the boat; (b) what was the original cost of the boat; (c) whether any instalments have been paid for the boat; and, if so, how much; and (d) in whose hands the boat now is.

No grant of the nature indicated was made by my Department. I am informed by the Committee of the Sea Fisheries Association that in June, 1934, they supplied a motor fishing boat to a Brandon fisherman on their usual hire purchase terms, but they cannot say to what extent, if any, that transaction concerned the parties referred to in this question.
