Vol. 57 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Claim for National Health Benefit.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that Miss Hannah Dowd, Lower Doonard, Tarbert, County Kerry, who was a member of the Irish Amalgamated Society, received benefit at her own home from September, 1933, to June, 1934, when the different National Health Insurance Societies were amalgamated; that she is now expected to travel to Newtownsandes, a distance of 5½ miles, against the orders of her doctor, to get benefit, and that she has not received any benefit from the Unified Society for the past seven weeks, and whether steps will be taken to ensure that Miss Dowd will in future receive regularly, at her own home, the benefit to which she is entitled.

Cheques in payment of benefit to Miss Dowd have been regularly issued by the Society to the agent at Newtownsandes, on receipt of medical evidence. Some misunderstanding has arisen between the agent and the insured member as to delivery of the cheques but instructions have now been issued to the agent which will avoid any delay in payment in future.
