Vol. 59 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of “All Bran.”

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is a fact, that Kellogg's "All Bran," a product used by the public for health purposes, is now no longer available in Saorstát Eireann and if he will state if there is a corresponding commodity available on the home market, and, if not, if he will license the import of "All Bran" until such time as the appropriate product is manufactured here.

The importation of commodities such as Kellogg's "All Bran" is prohibited under the provisions of the Agricultural Produce (Cereals) Act, 1934, but licences are issued freely to applicants for the importation of consignments of such commodities in cases in which the applications are accompanied by medical certificates to the effect that they are necessary as a remedy for or as a preventive of disease. It is anticipated that a product somewhat similar to Kellogg's "All Bran" will be produced in the Saorstát at an early date.
