Vol. 59 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Association with British Currency.

asked the Minister for Finance whether it is his intention to take steps before the end of the financial year for the purpose of terminating the existing association of our currency with the currency of Great Britain and, if so, whether he can now indicate the nature and extent of the action contemplated.

The Government has not under consideration any proposals to amend the law which imposes on the Currency Commission the statutory obligation of redeeming in sterling at the par of exchange all legal tender notes presented for redemption at its London agency.
