Vol. 59 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Labourers' Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if in respect of the (a) Leix and (b) Offaly Boards of Health he will state the total amount sanctioned by his Department for the repair of labourers' cottages since 31st March, 1932, and the number of cottages covered by such sanction, repaired during that period.

Expenditure in connection with the repair of labourers' cottages is not subject to my sanction where such expenditure is being defrayed out of the Revenue accounts by boards of health and public assistance. Sanction is required only where it is proposed to obtain loans to meet the cost of the repair works. On the 5th July, 1935, sanction was expressed to the borrowing of a sum of £5,000 by the Laoighis Board of Health and Public Assistance for the repair of approximately 300 cottages. No loan has been sanctioned within the period mentioned in the question for the repair of cottages in Offaly.
