Vol. 59 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Pensions Acts Amendment.

asked the Minister for Defence if he proposes to amend the Army Pensions Acts 1923 to 1932 in view of the information now at his disposal in connection with the administration of the said Acts, and if he is aware that grave hardship exists in a large number of cases which have been brought to his notice, and if he is in a position to state when such proposals for amending legislation will be introduced.

Proposals for new legislation amending the Army Pensions Acts are at present the subject of departmental inquiry, and it is hoped to reach a decision regarding them at an early date, when they will be placed before the Oireachtas for consideration.

Can the Minister give an approximate date as to when the decision will be reached?

I cannot give any more definite reply at the moment.

Is the Minister aware that there are cases of very grave hardship in this matter and does he know that some of them may have died since this matter was last examined? Would the Minister try to expedite this departmental inquiry?
