Vol. 59 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Establishment of Factories.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of new factories established under licence and the number established under the conditions laid down in the Control of Manufactures Act since the latter Act came into operation.

The total number of new manufacture licences granted to date is 58. Of these, two have been revoked and one has expired. In accordance with the terms of Section 12 of the Control of Manufactures Act, 1934, a register is kept of all new manufacture licences granted, and this register is open to inspection on payment of the statutory fee. As regards the second part of the question, what the Deputy requires to know, presumably, is the number of factories established since the passing of the Control of Manufactures Act, 1932, which did not require the authority of new manufacture licences. Every effort is being made to compile this information but I do not anticipate that it will be available for some time.
