Vol. 59 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Charleville Medical Officership.

asked the President if he will state the age limits approved by the North Cork Board of Health in connection with the vacancy for a medical officer in the Charleville district, and the age limits fixed by the Local Appointments Commissioners for the position; and if he will state whether the person recommended for the position by the Local Appointments Commissioners is within these age limits; and, if not, if he will state why a person was appointed whose age was not within the limits fixed (1) by the North Cork Board of Health, and (2) by the Local Appointments Commissioners.

I understand that the Deputy's information is inaccurate. It is not the practice of the Local Appointments Commissioners to specify age limits for candidates for posts as dispensary medical officer, and no age limits were laid down in the conditions of appointment for the position of dispensary medical officer of Charleville dispensary district.

I am further informed that it was only after the competition had been held and a candidate recommended that the commissioners received any intimation that the North Cork Board of Health desired to fix limits of age.

Does the President state that the age limit was not fixed before the applications were submitted to the Appointments Commissioners?

I have already read to the Deputy what my information is. I am informed that it was only after the competition had been held and a candidate recommended that the commissioners received any intimation that the North Cork Board of Health desired to fix limits of age. I have told the Deputy also that it is not the practice of the Appointments Commissioners to fix limits of age for medical officers.

Is it not in the power of the Board of Health to fix age limits?
