Vol. 59 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grant for Mountrath Road.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that the road leading from the railway station for Mountrath to the courthouse, Mountrath, is badly in need of repair, and whether he is prepared in the circumstances to make available a special grant for the steam-rolling of this road from the railway station to the junction with the main trunk road in the neighbourhood of the courthouse at Mountrath.

An inspector is visiting the locality this week, and on receipt of his report the matter referred to by the Deputy will be considered.

I am very glad that Deputy O'Higgins has raised this question. I may tell the Minister that I travel on this road four or five times a week, the road leading from the railway station for Mountrath, and it is one of the worst roads in Laoighis. I would be more than thankful if the Minister would endeavour to expedite the work in this area, as it is most necessary.
