Vol. 59 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Chain and Multiple Shops.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his attention has been directed to the statement of the Commission on the Registration of Shops that the growth of chain and multiple shops, controlled by firms with large capital, creates a possibility of sudden and successful invasion; and if so, whether it is his intention to introduce proposals for legislation to protect the community against the dangers envisaged by the Commission.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. With regard to the second part, proposals for legislation arising out of the report of the Commission are at present under consideration but I am not now in a position to state whether the matter referred to in the question will be dealt with by the proposed legislation.
