Vol. 59 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Valuations in Limerick Borough.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he received a resolution from the Limerick County Borough Council requesting him to review the high valuations on land within the Limerick County Borough with a view to relieving the heavy burden on the occupiers; and if so, whether he has taken or purposes to take any action in the matter.

I have received the resolution referred to. The matter of reviewing valuations generally is at present under consideration. Lands in Limerick County Borough occupied as arable, meadow or pasture grounds only or as woodlands or market gardens or nursery grounds are assessed on three-fifths only of the valuation in pursuance of the Limerick City Management Act, 1934.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, I want to ask whether he is aware that there are, outside the lands mentioned, other lands in this area—indeed other very extensive lands—outside the market gardens, and will the Minister consider, in view of the fact that these holdings get no agricultural grant and they are very highly valued, taking some steps to speed up the revaluation of these particular holdings?

The question of revaluation generally is receiving the most careful consideration.
