Vol. 60 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maize Meal Mixture.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what was the total production of maize meal mixture of all producers thereof in Saorstát Eireann for each month in the calendar year 1935.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what total quantities of maize meal mixture were manufactured by registered maize meal millers in Saorstát Eireann in each calendar month in the year 1935 and in the month of January, 1936.

Dr. Ryan

I propose to take questions Nos. 29 and 30 together, as the information asked for appears to be the same in each case. The regulations made under the Agricultural Produce (Cereals) Acts do not require maize millers to state specifically, in the monthly returns furnished by them, the quantity of maize meal mixture manufactured by them in each month, and the extraction of this information from the returns would involve a considerable amount of time and trouble. As, however, the returns show the quantities of maize meal mixture sold in each month, I can arrange, if such particulars would meet the Deputy's requirements, to have the total sales of maize meal mixture in each calendar month of 1935 furnished to him as soon as the information has been compiled. The returns in respect of January, 1936, are not yet available, as millers are allowed a period of seven days after the end of the month in which to furnish the prescribed returns.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, I take it that the information which he volunteers with regard to the sales of maize meal would meet the question I asked?

Dr. Ryan

Yes.
