Vol. 60 No. 1

Written Answers. - Division of Estates (Westmeath).

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state during each of the calendar years 1932, 1933, 1934 and 1935 (a) the number of estates divided in the County Westmeath; (b) the names of said estates; (c) the number of acres in each; (d) the number I.R.A. and (3) landless men who got divisions of land on said estates.

The reply is in the form of a schedule setting out in the form readily available in Land Commission records information as to the division of untenanted land in County Westmeath under Land Acts, 1923-33, in the years 1932 to 1935.

*In addition, one estate comprising 666 acres was allotted for afforestation purposes in the year 1934.

Details are not kept in the exact form required by the Deputy, and as regards the special case of old I.R.A. men, it may be stated that while due consideration is given to the claims of applicants for land who in addition to their other qualifications have a meritorious record of past military service for their country, the statistical returns of the Land Commission must have regard only to the classes of allottees specified in the Land Acts. Particulars are not therefore available as to the number of old I.R.A. men included in the scheduled figures of allotments.
