Can the Minister say from the tabulated statement the number of transfers that have been permanently made during the last two years?
The total numbers, including inspectors and sergeants as well as guards, were, in 1934, 2,121; in 1935, 1,871.
I presume the Minister is aware of the serious inconvenience caused to members of the Gárda Síochána by frequent transfers from one station to another. Does he consider these transfers absolutely necessary, and can he do anything to minimise the number of transfers?
The matter is one entirely for the Commissioner, and I am quite satisfied that he only makes these transfers when he considers it necessary to do so. The Deputy knows that a good many transfers were necessitated by the setting up of a Division in the Gaeltacht. When the Deputy sees the tabulated statement he will see that there have been no abnormal transfers.
