Vol. 60 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Flour and Bread.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when it is intended to introduce proposals for legislation to regulate the price of household and bakers' flour and also the price of bread.

Legislation to control the price of bread is in course of preparation and I hope to introduce the necessary Bill during the present session.

As regards flour, I would refer the Deputy to a discussion on this matter in this House on the 10th December last. The position has not altered in the meanwhile, and until I have reason to believe that the assurance given by the flour millers is not being observed I do not propose to interfere by legislation with flour prices.

Can the Minister indicate what was the assurance given by the flour millers?

To observe the formula of the Prices Commission.

Is the Minister aware that the price of flour has been increased to consumers by 8d. per stone in the last 12 months?
