Vol. 60 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Motor Car Number Plates.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that there are several manufacturers in the Irish Free State who are capable of making satisfactory aluminium number plates for motor cars, and if he will insist on such Irish-made plates being used in future on all cars assembled and registered in the Irish Free State.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The manufacture of metal number plates for vehicles is already protected by a Customs duty, but no representations have been made to me that car owners should be compelled to use aluminium plates only.
