asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will state in respect of each employment exchange and branch employment office the number of persons precluded from receiving unemployment assistance owing to the operation of (a) the First Employment Period Order and (b) the Second Employment Period Order made in 1935 under the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933, and, further, whether he can state the total estimated amount saved to the State by the operation of the two Orders mentioned.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.
Particulars as to the number of applications for unemployment assistance which were disallowed at each local office under the two Employment Period Orders of 1935 will be circulated with the Official Report. The reduction in the amount required for the payment of unemployment assistance attributable to the Unemployment Assistance (Employment Period) Order, 1935, is estimated at £12,000. Owing to the coming into operation in August, 1935, of the Unemployment Assistance (Amendment) Act, it is difficult to give a close estimate of the reduction in the amount required for the payment of unemployment assistance attributable to the operation of the Unemployment Assistance (Second Employment Period) Order, 1935, but a figure of £113,000 is suggested. The total saving attributable to both employment periods is accordingly estimated at £125,000.
