Vol. 60 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tobacco Crop.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the total number of persons in each county to whom licences to grow tobacco in the year 1936 have been issued and the total acreage in respect of which such licences were issued, and if he will state further the number of applications for licences received from each county and the acreage represented by such applications.

Applications for licences to grow tobacco are made in the first instance to the Revenue Commissioners, through the local officers of Customs and Excise, and are normally referred to me by the Revenue Commissioners for a recommendation. The latest date for receiving applications in respect of the year 1936 was 31st December, 1935, and most of the applications received are at present in course of being dealt with by the two Departments concerned. In the circumstances, it is not practicable at present to give the information asked for by the Deputy.
