Vol. 60 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Merchandise Licences.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of merchandise licences (1) granted and (2) refused in respect of each county under the Road Transport Acts, and if he will also state for each county the number of cases where application for transfer of particular merchandise (existing carrier's) licences were (a) granted and (b) refused, and the amount of compensation paid for each county.

The number of merchandise licences granted under the Road Transport Act, 1933, was 1,383, and the number refused 216. 380 transfers of merchandise (existing carrier) licences were granted and two refused. A statement showing the distribution of these figures by counties of domicile of the applicants or licensees will be circulated with the Official Report, but the area of operation of the licensees extends in practically all cases to more than one county. I have no information as to the amount of compensation paid in respect of the compulsory transfer of merchandise licences.

Following is the statement:—
