Vol. 60 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Tipperary Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that in the Cashel district an area covering 20,000 acres of land suitable for acquisition and division was brought to the notice of the Land Commission three years ago; whether any steps have been taken to acquire any portion of this land, and, if not, why; and if he is now in a position to state when this land will be taken over for division.

The Deputy's question would seem to have reference to a list of 34 estates in the Cashel area comprising something over 20,000 acres, which was received by the Land Commission in June of last year. Proceedings have been taken in respect of all the cases mentioned in that list and one of the estates has been acquired and divided but it cannot be stated at present how many of the other estates will be found suitable for acquisition. Proceedings are taking their ordinary course of priority. Two cases have reached the stage of a resale scheme having been prepared, and these schemes are under consideration. In three cases, instructions for the preparation of schemes have been issued.
