Vol. 60 No. 8

Written Answers. - Rates of Export Bounties.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the rates at which it is proposed, should conditions justify it, to pay export bounties during the period from 1st April, 1935, to 30th September, 1936, on (1) mine and quarry products, (2) linen piece goods and manufactures, (3) embroidery work, (4) blacking and polishes, (5) shirts, collars and hosiery (including pyjamas), (6) horticultural and nursery goods (excluding insecticides), (7) biscuits, (8) jute manufactures, (9) margarine and edible fat (excluding lard), (10) basic slag, (11) glass bottles, (12) stained glass windows, (13) goldsmiths' and silversmiths' ware, (14) tailor-made clothing, (15) agricultural machinery, (16) brushes, (17) paper (excluding stationery), (18) church metal and other ornamental metal work, (19) patent malt, (20) buoy and beacon lights, (21) patent mattresses, pillows, etc.; (22) bog-oak carvings, etc.; (23) monumental sculpture work, (24) Rosary beads, (25) hand-woven woollen piece goods, (26) carpets and floor rugs, (27) poplin piece goods and manufactures, (28) wooden bobbins and ladder rungs, and (29) miscellaneous.

It is presumed that the question relates to the period from 1st April, 1936, to 30th September, 1936. The export bounties payable on the commodities referred to in the question will be equivalent to the amount of the duty payable under the British Import Duties Act, 1932, subject to a maximum of 25 per cent. ad valorem. There are a few miscellaneous items to which this does not apply.
