Vol. 60 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Taxation on Hackney Motor Cars.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the great number of hackney motor owners who have been driven out of business all over the country owing to high taxation on cars and if he will reconsider the representations made to him in the memorandum submitted on the 19th February, 1935, by the National Motor Hackney Trade Association with a view to granting a reduction in the taxes at present imposed on hackney vehicles.

I am not aware that great numbers of hackney motor owners have been driven out of business all over the country owing to the high taxation on cars and no reliable evidence that this is the case has ever been placed before me. The representations made to me in the memorandum submitted on the 19th February, 1935, by the National Motor Hackney Trade Association will be considered in the normal course in connection with the Budget for 1936.
