Vol. 60 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Fishermen's Losses.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that in the recent gales severe losses were incurred by fishermen in West Cork by the damage done to their boats, involving, in some cases, the destruction of their sole means of livelihood, and if he is in a position to provide monetary grants to enable such fishermen to make good their losses.

I am aware that in West Cork as in other districts a certain amount of damage to the boats and gear of fishermen was caused during the recent gales. There is not within my control any fund from which monetary grants can be provided for the persons affected, but if such persons will communicate with the Sea Fisheries Association they will probably be helped to make good their losses on very reasonable terms.
