Vol. 60 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Registrars' Pensions.

asked the Minister for Justice whether his attention has been called to the fact that by reason of the age at which solicitors are normally appointed to the positions of county registrars, the existing provisions for pensions for such county registrars do not enable them to obtain an adequate pension on retirement; and if, having regard to the responsible duties carried out by these officials (who are now also sheriffs) and to the increased duties proposed to be imposed on them in the Courts of Justice Bill, he will introduce proposals for legislation to provide county registrars with pensions calculated on a basis not less favourable than those proposed for district justices in the Courts of Justice Bill.

I cannot hold out any hope of legislation on the lines suggested by the Deputy.
