Vol. 60 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fees in Preparatory Colleges.

asked the Minister for Education whether fees paid by parents in respect of students in the Preparatory Colleges are determined by the income of the parents and, if so, whether he will indicate the scale in operation, and, further, whether he will state if the fees charged are strictly in accordance with such scale.

A pension fee of £40 is payable in respect of each pupil in a preparatory college. This sum may, however, be reduced or remitted, the question of the reduction or the remission to be determined by the Department with reference to the circumstances of the parents or guardians and on the evidence of their inability to pay the fee in full.

There are certain instructions, which include a scale of income, for the general guidance of officers of the Department in dealing with these cases. It is not proposed to publish these instructions.
