Vol. 60 No. 15

Committee on Finance. - Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Bill, 1935—Final Stages.

Question—"That the Bill be received for final consideration"—put and agreed to.
Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass."

Could the Minister tell me how certain people who are rather nervous about their rights being swept away are safeguarded because I am not very clear? The Minister said that the power to grant them remission was reserved, but I should like him to enlighten me further on that point.

I am assured that there is no doubt that all the rights given in the 1932 Act in respect of rates remission are still retained.

Would the Minister say that at the earliest possible moment he will try to meet the cases we have mentioned in respect of valuation?

My chief argument for the time being is that we have not by any means exhausted the number of claimants under the £25 limit. There are a good number of claimants still, and when it would appear that their claims were satisfied, there would probably be a case for going further, but at present I doubt if that is possible.

Question put and agreed to.
