Vol. 61 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Condition of Leix Road.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he has received repeated complaints regarding the alleged bad condition of the Killamullen road between Monasterevan and Portarlington, County Leix; whether he has received an application for a grant from the Commissioner now administering the affairs of the Laoighis County Council for the purpose of carrying out the necessary improvement work and, if so, what action he has taken or proposes to take concerning same.

The condition of the road between Monasterevan and Portarlington has been the subject of representations. It is linked with the question of the condition and suitability for modern traffic of the canal bridges at Monasterevan and Portarlington and of other bridges on the main road between the towns. It has been found that the provision of an alternative route between the towns will take the bulk of the main road traffic from all but one of the unsuitable bridges and a grant from the Road Fund has been provided towards half the cost of the improvement of the alternative route.
