Vol. 61 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Wexford Pier.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will have a grant made available for the repairing of the structural damage done to Carne Pier, County Wexford, by the storms of the past winter, as in its present state Carne Pier is not a safe shelter for the fishermen's boats, and if he is aware that, by the expenditure of about £200 on it, it could be put into reasonably sound condition.

I am of opinion that anything effective, by way of repairs to Carne Pier, would involve expenditure of many times the sum mentioned and I am not satisfied that the fishing interests to be served are such as would justify the heavy outlay needed in the case.

Is the Minister aware that owing to the condition of the pier the fishermen are unable to launch their boats, and, now that the fishing season is in full swing, what alternative have they?

Dr. Ryan

I have nothing to add to the answer I have given.
