asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether any duties have been prescribed under the Land Act, 1933, for the Lay Commissioners of the Appeal Tribunal appointed under that Act other than the hearing and deciding of appeals and, if so, if he will state what duties are now being carried out by the Lay Commissioners.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lay Commissioners' Duties.
In addition to their other duties on the Appeal Tribunal, the two Lay Commissioners who are members of the Tribunal share with the other Lay Commissioners responsibility for the discharge of the various statutory functions and duties assigned to the Land Commissioners by the different Land Acts. They do not, of course, deal with any matter whatever which is likely to be or capable of being the subject of appeal to the Appeal Tribunal. All such appealable business is dealt with and decided by the other commissioners. The duties imposed upon Land Commissioners by the Statutes cover an extremely wide range and involve a mass of detail which it would be practically impossible to set out by way of reply to a question.
