Vol. 61 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Clare Blind Pension.

(An Clár) asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (1) when a decision was reached in respect of the blind pension appeal of John Martin, Labasheeda, County Clare; (2) was that decision based on the report of the Department's medical inspector; (3) what was the nature of that report; (4) on what date the medical officer visited the applicant; (5) if the report is not based on the Department's medical officer's report, will he say on what evidence his decision is based.

(1) A decision was reached in this case on 29th April, 1936. (2) The decision was based on the report of a Departmental medical inspector. Representations were recently made to me in reference to this man's claim to national health insurance benefit, and, on examination of his insurance file, it was found that the medical referee had decided on the 30/3/'35 that he was incapable of work owing to defective vision. In view of the referee's report, the claim to a blind pension was allowed without further inspection.
