Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cycles Assembled in Saorstát.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total number and value and average value of completed cycles, other than mechanically propelled cycles, manufactured or assembled in Saorstát Eireann during each of the years 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934 and 1935.

The information which the Deputy desires, regarding completed cycles other than mechanically propelled cycles, was not required on the Census of Production Returns until the year 1934. In that year, according to returns received, the number of such cycles manufactured or assembled was 52,951 of a value of £205,183 and an average value of £3 17s. 6d. From information received from assemblers it has been estimated that the number manufactured or assembled in 1932 was 24,000. Based on the 1934 average price, the value was £93,000. For the year 1933, the number has been estimated at 42,000 and the value at £162,750. The figures for the year 1935 are not yet available.
