Vol. 63 No. 8

Committee on Finance. - Vote 46—Primary Education.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim Bhreise ná raghaidh thar £400 chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1937, chun Costaisí Bun-Oideachais, maraon le hAois-liúntaisí Múinteoiri Scoile Náisiúnta agus Deontas-i-gCabhair, etc.

That a Supplementary sum not exceeding £400 be granted to defray the charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending 31st March, 1937, for the expenses of Primary Education, including National School Teachers' Superanuation and a Grant-in-Aid, etc.

The purpose of this Vote is to increase the allocation for holiday scholarships in the Gaeltacht. The original Estimate was for £600, but, owing to the manner in which the scheme is being supported by the general public and particularly by the trade union organisations in Dublin, we feel called upon to revise the Estimate and make additional provision of £400.

Is this agreed?

There is just one point that arises in my mind. In the distribution of scholarships I take it that no person ordinarily entitled to get one of these scholarships will be prejudicially affected by reason of the fact that he may be assisted through any other source such as a contribution from one of the competitions now running in the newspapers or from any other body or concern like that.

This is a grant-in-aid which we do not administer. That is done through Coisde na bPaistí.

Question put and agreed to.
Estimates 1 to 73 and Supplementary Estimates reported and agreed to.
