Vol. 63 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Claims for Kerry Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that three applicants for labourers' cottages, namely, Michael Finucane and Michael Stack, of Tieraclea, Tarbert, County Kerry, and Michael Mulvihill, of Doonard, Tarbert, gave evidence before an inquiry in reference to the building of cottages in North Kerry, and, if so, will he state why it is that these applications are not granted in view of the fact that their present dwellings houses are in a dilapidated condition.

The three persons mentioned were applicants for cottages on lands proposed to be acquired compulsorily by the Kerry Board of Health and Public Assistance and which formed the subject of a public local inquiry held by one of my inspectors. Michael Mulvihill gave evidence at the inquiry. Messrs. Stack and Finucane did not. Two of the three sites applied for were excluded from the confirming order. The site applied for by Michael Finucane was confirmed. The board of health were advised to secure alternative sites for Michael Mulvihill and Michael Stack. The alternative sites have not been acquired nor has a cottage yet been erected for Michael Finucane on the site which the board of health have been authorised to acquire.
