Vol. 63 No. 12

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extermination of Rabbits.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the widespread damage which still continues to be caused by rabbits in the country, he will now state if the question of exterminating this pest by the use of poisonous gases has been fully considered by the Department; and, if so, if it is intended to take any action to destroy rabbits by this or any other means.

Dr. Ryan

The question of exterminating rabbits by the use of poisonous gases has been dealt with locally by a number of county committees of agriculture. The scheme adopted has taken the form of subsidising the purchase of rotary blowers, and the selection of a number of young men who are prepared to pay the balance of the purchase price and use the equipment amongst farmers at an agreed rate per day.
