asked the Minister for Education if it is intended to continue the practice of teaching algebra through the medium of Irish.
Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Teaching of Algebra Through Irish.
In national schools where the programme requires algebra to be taught in the 5th and 6th standard, Irish is expected to be the teaching medium in this and other obligatory subjects when the teacher is competent to give and the pupils are able to assimilate the instruction so given. As far as secondary schools are concerned, algebra is one of the subjects on the programme and the schools are at liberty to teach it through Irish or through English.
