Vol. 63 No. 12

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tuberculosis Hospital for South Tipperary.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (a) if the Cahir military barracks site has been selected for the new tuberculosis hospital for South Tipperary; and, if not, whether a site near the town of Cahir will be chosen, and when building operations will be commenced; and (b) if sanction has been given to the proposed housing scheme for Cahir; and, if so, if he can state the reasons for the delay in proceeding with the work.

A site for the proposed new tuberculosis institution has not yet been selected. The Commissioner has been asked to have a survey made of the lands in the neighbourhood of Cahir within a reasonable distance of the water supply. The report and the views of the Commissioner have not yet been received. Consequently it is not yet possible to say when building operations will commence.

A compulsory purchase Order, which included sites for 16 houses in the town of Cahir and seven houses near the town, was made in 1935 and confirmed on the 23rd March last. The arbitrator appointed to fix the compensation payable sat during this month and is at present preparing his award. As soon as the compensation has been paid there will be no further obstacle to the erection of the houses.
