Vol. 63 No. 12

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carndonagh Alcohol Factory.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that a number of men employed at Carndonagh alcohol factory ceased work as a protest against (a) the low rate of 7d. per hour which was being paid for extremely heavy work, and (b) the conditions under which they were obliged to work, and whether he is prepared to take any steps to secure for the men employed on this work a decent standard of wages and an improvement in the conditions of employment.

I am aware that a number of men employed at the Carndonagh alcohol factory ceased work with a view to obtaining an improvement in the wages and conditions obtaining at the time of the stoppage. An official of my Department was sent to Carndonagh recently and a settlement of the dispute has been effected.

How many persons are employed at the Carndonagh factory?

That is a separate question.
