Vol. 63 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Saorstát and Coronation Commission.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he is aware that the King, in order to recognise the equal interest of the Dominions with the United Kingdom in the Coronation, has appointed a special Coronation Commission representative of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa; if any invitation was received to take part in this Commission; and, if so, what reply was sent; if no invitation was received, will he inquire why the Irish Free State was overlooked.

The proposal for the establishment of a special Coronation Commission was put forward by the British Government for the acceptance of the Governments of the States of the British Commonwealth. The Government of Saorstát Eireann replied that they had no observations to make on the proposal.

Would the President of the Executive Council explain why the Government of Saorstát Eireann had no especial interest in the proposal?

I think the reply contains all the information it is necessary to give.

Will the President of the Executive Council bear in mind, if he reflects on the subject any further, that there is no reason why a dispute of any kind between this country and Great Britain should interfere with our attitude towards the King of Ireland?

Might I suggest to the Deputy to refer that question to the Lord Mayor of Dublin?
