Vol. 63 No. 19

Liffey Reservoir Bill, 1936—First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to empower the Electricity Supply Board to impound the waters of the River Liffey and generate electricity by hydraulic power derived from the waters so impounded, and to transmit, distribute, sell, and supply the electricity so generated, and to empower the Right Honorable the Lord Mayor, Aldermen and Burgesses of Dublin to take for their water supply portion of the waters so impounded, and to provide for divers matters ancillary to or connected with the matters aforesaid, and also to increase the total amount of the sums which may be advanced to the Electricity Supply Board out of the Central Fund—(Minister for Agriculture).

When will the Second Stage be taken?

Is that the day on which we shall be resuming?

Dr. Ryan

Yes.

Could the Minister give any indication of the order in which business will be taken? All business that is not done now is dumped on to the next day we meet. On that next day we meet, when it comes to selecting the order of urgency or importance, something originally postponed until that date might not come on the Order Paper for months. Are we to get any information as to whether the Second Reading of this Bill will actually be taken on 4th November?

Dr. Ryan

I think the Deputy may take it that it will be regarded as urgent.

I expect so. That is satisfactory. When may we hope to get the Bill?

During the recess.

Can the Minister say will it be early?

I cannot say. I hope the Deputy will have ample time to consider it before the Dáil reassembles.
