Vol. 63 No. 19

Committee on Finance. - Night Work (Bakeries) Bill, 1936—Money Resolution.

I move:—

That it is expedient to authorise the payment out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas of any expenses incurred in carrying into effect any Act of the present Session to carry out and give effect to the Night Work (Bakeries) Convention, 1925.

I want to ask the Minister has he yet had any discussions in regard to the period which he proposes to fix under Section 4 of the Bill? Has he any idea of what the seven hours will be which he will define as the night for the purposes of the Bill?

There is an amendment on the paper which gives the Minister power to substitute the period of ten to four instead of eleven to five. I think that we are limited and could not accept under the terms of the convention, the proposal of Deputy Mulcahy, for example, that it should be midnight to 7 a.m. But from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., being a period of eight hours, would seem to be permissible.

It is a period of seven hours, is it not?

Not less than seven hours.

The Minister has not made up his mind whether he is going to make it from eleven to seven or ten to six?

He must consult the organisations.

I was wondering has he done so, or has a discussion taken place.

No discussions have taken place yet.

Question put and agreed to.
Report of Resolution agreed to.
