Vol. 65 No. 3

Whale Fisheries Bill, 1936—Motion for Money Resolution. - Spanish Civil War Non-Intervention Bill, 1937—First Stage.

I wonder if I would have the permission of the House to move the First Reading of the Spanish Civil War Non-Intervention Bill. The Bill is entitled an Act to carry into execution the international obligations of Saorstát Eireann in relation to the civil war now being waged in Spain, to make such provisions as are necessary or expedient for that purpose and, in particular, to prohibit citizens of Saorstát Eireann from participating in that war.

The Opposition have no objection to the President moving the introduction of this Bill.

Leave granted.
Bill read a first time.

When is it proposed to take the Second Stage?

If I may claim the indulgence of the House again, I should like to have the Second Reading to-morrow.

The Opposition will be glad to extend that indulgence to the President.

When will the Bill be circulated?

We hope to circulate it this evening.

Will the President guarantee that, under the provisions of his Bill, he will prevent the "Reds" from going to the assistance of the Communist Party in Spain as well as preventing the others?

There are no "Reds" in this country.

You refused to pass a resolution against Communism.

Second Reading fixed for Thursday, 18th February.
