Vol. 65 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mallow Factory Workers' Claim

asked the Minister for Finance whether he received a claim for compensation for the loss of employment from the workers employed at the factory of Messrs. Cleeves Bros., at Mallow, following the destruction of the factory by British forces; and, if so, whether he is prepared to take the necessary steps to enable him to pay those claims.

A claim for compensation was received in my Department from the workers in question. Losses such as those referred to did not come within the Terms of Reference of the Compensation (Ireland) Commission and they are excluded from the provisions of the Damage to Property (Compensation)) Acts, 1923 to 1933, and the Indemnity Act, 1924. At no time has compensation been paid in respect of loss of employment, and the answer to the second part of the question is in the negative.
