Vol. 65 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Publication of Irish Manuscripts.

asked the Minister for Education whether he will state (1) in what number of cases the authors of original Irish manuscripts submitted to the Publications Section of his Department during the calendar year 1936 received notices of the acceptance or rejection of such manuscripts, and (2) in what number of cases was the interval which elapsed between the submission of such manuscripts and the issue by the Department of such notices of acceptance or rejection less than three months, more than three months, but less than six months; more than six months, but less than one year; more than one year, but less than two years; more than two years, but less than three years, and so on.

(1) The number of original manuscripts submitted was 71; the authors of 62 of these received notice of their acceptance or rejection, and seven others were returned for revision or amendment. (2) The interval between the receipt of the manuscripts and the issue of the Department's decision was less than three months in 45 cases, between three months and six months in 15 cases, and over six months in two cases; the eight manuscripts on which no decision has yet been conveyed to the authors were submitted in the latter part of the year 1936, and, as I have stated, seven of them have been returned to their authors for further consideration.
