Vol. 65 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Roscommon County Infirmary.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether, in the selection of material for the building of the Roscommon County Infirmary, he will take steps to secure that regard will be had to the interests of the stone cutters and labourers employed at Lecarrow quarry, County Roscommon.

The specification provides for the erection of the county hospital in cut stone. The selection of the quarries from which such material is obtained rests with the contractor.

Do I understand the Parliamentary Secretary to say that the specification provided for the use of cut stone?

The Deputy understood the Parliamentary Secretary correctly.

My recollection of the transaction is that the Parliamentary Secretary forbade the use of cut stone and directed the local authority to put in even concrete window sills, that he would not allow the use of cut stone for the window sills, not to speak of the rest of the building.

The Deputy's recollection is at fault.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary state now that the new county infirmary is going to be built in cut stone?

I have stated so in my reply.

Is that a new decision?
