Vol. 66 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Loans for Kerry Farmers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that farmers in areas in Kerry served by creameries are unable to get advances from the Dairy Disposals Board to enable them to purchase seeds and manures for this season, and if he will have funds placed at the disposal of the Dairy Disposals Board for loan through creameries at low rates of interest, which would be repayable at the end of the financial year 1938.

Dr. Ryan

I am not aware that farmers supplying milk to creameries operated by the Dairy Disposals Company are unable to get advances for the purchase of seeds and manures. The practice of the company is to make, in suitable cases, small advances to milk suppliers in the winter and spring months. These advances are repayable during the ensuing period when milk is plentiful.
