Vol. 66 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages on Robe Drainage Scheme.

Mr. Hogan

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (a) what rate of wages is paid to men working on the drainage of the river Robe area in County Mayo; (b) on what that rate of wages is based, and (c) whether the wages paid is 17/- per week less than the wages paid in the town of Claremorris, in the same county.

Labourers employed on the river Robe scheme are at present paid 23/- per week, which rate is under consideration. This rate of wages is based on the average rate paid to agricultural labourers in County Mayo. The Minister is not aware of the existence of a rate of 40/- per week for labourers employed in the town of Claremorris.

Mr. Hogan

My information is from a very reliable source in that district. I have a letter, which perhaps I may give the Parliamentary Secretary.

I have made inquiries, and my inquiries do not bear out that information.

Mr. Hogan

May I give the Parliamentary Secretary the letter?

I should be very glad to have it.
