Vol. 67 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Lands

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what steps the Land Commission has taken to acquire the Laurence V. Jones estate at Fortland, Easkey, County Sligo.

The Land Commission have directed that an inspection be made to ascertain the suitability for their purposes of the lands comprising this estate.

In the event of these lands having been purchased by some other person in the meantime, will the Minister say if the Land Commission are still in a position to proceed with acquisition proceedings as though the estate still vested in Jones?

Mr. Boland

The right of the Land Commission is not prejudiced by a person buying these lands. They can still proceed if they wish to do so.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress has been made in connection with the acquisition of the estate of Patrick and John Duffy, Quigaboy, Kilglass, County Sligo, and when this estate will be available for the relief of local congestion.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission instituted proceedings for the acquisition of the lands of Quigaboy, the property of Patrick and John Duffy. The owners objected to acquisition, and their objection was heard by the Land Commission—decision being reserved. Pending judgment being delivered, it is not possible to state whether the lands will be acquired for division.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the number of acres of land (a) acquired and (b) subdivided in the County Sligo during each of the financial years 1924 to 1937.

Mr. Boland

The reply is in the form of a tabular statement which will be circulated in the Official Report.
